Desert Express Facilities on board

Guests can relax and mingle in the popular Spitzkoppe Lounge, which like the entire train, is fully air-conditioned. The Lounge is divided into a smoking and non-smoking section, and a full bar service is offered on board, which includes specialty drinks and aptly named cocktails. A unique chess table where black and white squares have been made from the sand of the Namib desert is also located in the Spitzkoppe Lounge. The Lounge opens at 06h00 in the morning, when the early risers are welcome to enjoy a cup of freshly-brewed coffee.

Dinner and breakfast are served in the Welwitschia Restaurant, the coach adjacent to the Lounge. The overhead lights in this coach are something special - sandblasted glass panels depicting animal footprints in mud. A three course dinner, with a selection from three starters, main courses and desserts are prepared in  the adjacent kitchen by our chefs.

Sleeping compartment on board

 

There are 24 fully air-conditioned compartments, in 4 sleeper coaches (named Kokerboom,Oryx , Springbok and Meerkat), each with its own en-suite facilities. Each compartment converts to a private lounge during the day. All rooms are stylishly decorated, and reflecting the name of the coach it is located in with a matching carpet and sandblasting on the doors.

The en-suite bathroom is cleverly designed to make maximum use of minimum space. Amenities such as body wash/shampoo, body lotion, shoe buff and a mending kit are available for the guests. Valuables can be stored in the small safe in the compartment.
Desert Express also caters for corporate charters and short functions such as sundowner trips, cocktails, presentations, conferences and product launches. For these extra functions two special coaches, the Stardune Bistro and Starview,  have been added. For these short charters we can host a maximum of 60 people and offer special menus to select from.

As an additional service to our passengers, you can take your vehicle along and continue with your holiday once you have reached your destination.
